I think you should refine the question. By "gangsta" do you mean the rapper was an actual criminal? Like a real convicted felon? Or do you mean that their lyrics praise and glorify petty street-level criminal activity? Or that their lyrics "reflect" a "real life" of petty street-level criminal activity?
Cause if you mean actual convicted felons, there's quite a few. A whole lot. A natural question is why, out of so many rappers with actual criminal records, only a notorious handful are thought of as "gangsta" rappers. And some of them don't have criminal records.
