Would hip hop be as big as it is if....?!

Question: Every rapper stopped using all swear words on every record.

I just thought of that because Chamillionaire's 1st album "The Sound of Revenge" went platinum, and his 2nd album which he used no profanity (and swearing from featured guests was edited out) "Ultimate Victory" only sold about 400,000 copies and both the albums are equally good.

My guess is that ultimately sales would be much greater because it would attract some of us who used to listen to give it another try.

Of course, a lot of other changes would have to be made as well--like putting in some new, witty ideas, stop sampling everybody's else's beats, etc.

Ya, the sells would rise without the cuss words.

think about soulja boy they have curse words!
and most of all of the rappers just got albums out mabey they are making more with curse words =) it makes it good if they put it in the right place

well chamillionaire had a hit single on his first album, and his second did not. Swearing plays no part in sells.

there would be no difference.......thats why the record companies produce edited CD's

naw wouldnt matter but the second album was not as good as the first one

edited CD's suck. (imo)

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

(thats what those little PARENTAL ADVISORY badges are for)

Yeah it would. most of the average hip hop fans are under age.. and most likely they will be repeating the lyrics..

Absolutely not...
Hip-hop was created to reach a particular demographic, no offense intended. Without the language it would be "pop".

Like people have said, his second album didn't sell as well because there really was no hit single. No particular song that really stood out. The first album had both "Ridin Dirty" and "Turn It Up".
