Number of the Beast vs.Piece of Mind?!

Question: Number of the Beast is basically the number one Maiden album in most fans' minds. I disagree. Out of their older work, I think Piece of Mind is when they first started acquiring that orchestrated, technical Maiden sound... Plus, along came my drumming god, Nicko Mcbrain.
What is your opinion?

Wow, well this is hard to say because this was basically 2 different bands, just because the switching of the drummers from Clive to Nicko. I love N.O.T.B. man Clive was on fire on this one, but you have to give it to Nicko because of that intro on "Where Eagles Dare" I mean, dude when that came out and we played the cassette and that thunder came rolling through the speakers of that drum intro Nicko announced that he was here! The production on those 2 albums has yet to be topped. I'm a Dianno fan and that was the "maiden' that I first heard when I was a kid, but NOTB and POM were the albums that were the sound track to my teenage years. I can't pick one, they both rule! Up the IRONS!

Both great albums but I would still say 'Number of the Beast'. Every song on there is great, plus its got 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' on it. My favorite Maiden albums though are 'Powerslave' and 'Seventh Son...'.

Piece of Mind ... all the way!

Number of the Beast was the first Maiden album I ever heard, however, since I bought Piece of Mind, I actually think I'm starting to like it better... both of the albums are great heavy metal classics, but I will go with Piece of Mind

Both are great albums, but I'm gonna have to go with Number of the Beast. "Children of the Damned", "Hallowed be thy Name", "Invaders", etc. are all so addictive.

EDIT: Crap, I wrote "Grave" instead of "Damned". Well, I like those songs especially, but you're right.

I saw them a few years ago at Irvine Meadows. AWESOME show. Unreal...

Theyre both great albums but i will say Piece Of Mind was better

iron maiden - killers, paul vs. bruce. that's right people, paul. sang with much more passion than bruce, had a far better melodic voice, both equivalent with regard too "brutal"

piece of mind has some killer songs, like the trooper, but i think Number of the beast is still a better overall album. Plus, u cant beat Invaders, children of the damned, number of the beast, and run to the hills.

Wow, that's a tough one. They're both outstanding albums. I would have to give the edge to Piece of Mind, though. Ultimately, my favorite album from the first Bruce era was Powerslave, though.

On a related note, how have you liked the three albums they've put out since Bruce returned? For my part, I thought Brave New World and Dance of Death were both absolutely outstanding, but I have never been able to really get into AMOLAD.
