It was originally by Leonard Cohen in 1984. The version played in Ugly Betty was by Jeff Buckley in 1994.

Jeff Buckley

Lyrics:
Well I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do ya?
Well it goes like this :
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
And she tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

(Yeah but) Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor, (You know)
I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Hallelujah...

[Instrumental]

Maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelu...
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelu...
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Hallellllluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuujjj...

the angels from above.

probabaly paramore

Imogen Heap ?

Leonard Cohen, I think. Bon Jovi also does of a cover of the song.

paramore. or at least i think.

Leonard Cohen wrote it but everybody from Buckley and Imogen Heap to Jason Castro from American Idol has covered it. It's a lovely song but I'm a little tired of it!

not certain but ruface wainright did a very good version and i like it better than the others ive heard

It might be Rufus Wainwright.

It was originally done by Leonard Cohen, but there are popular versions by Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright - it's likely that they used one of those on Ugly Betty. I've also seen the song used in Shrek and Scrubs.

Leonard Cohen wrote it. It's been covered by a bunch of people including Jeff Buckley, kd lang, Rufus Wainwright, Willie Nelson and Simple Plan. It's also been used in Shrek, West Wing and Scrubs.

Somehow everything's gona fall
Right in

If we only had a way
To make it all
Fall faster everyday

If only time flew like
A dove
God make it fly
Faster than I'm falling in love
