He's most likely improvising. He's an absolutely incredible guitarist, so he's able to make live songs different and interesting by playing spontaneous solos. Personally I've always found guitarists who play their prepared studio solos again and again live incredibly boring, and I'm sure Frusciante has been playing for so long he does to.
