One doesn't have to sing in order to critisize singers. He is a talent agent and knows exactly what to look for. I'm a musician and singer myself and most of the time, I totally agree with what he has to say.
He may not be able to sing, but he has ears like the rest of us. He can hear when people suck.
All of us can hear when people can't carry a tune, but we are also entitled to our opinions. I can love one band and you can hate them and that's ok. Neither of us need to know how to play guitar or sing to think a band blows.

He doesn't need to be able to sing! His job isn't singing or entertaining. He finds and recognizes talent and has done so for a long time. As much as he probably shouldnt be so crude sometimes, he is right most of the time. Remember, televsion is entertainment and alot of Randy, Paul and Simon is just that ...entertainment!
No. I think he's a record producer and has experience in spotting talent.

Simon Cowell will tell you that he can't sing! He runs a music BUSINESS! Professionals know that being a musician in the "pop" culture means selling your talents and abilities. Basically, you're a product. If anyone has plans to become an artist on the air or in video, they need to understand that if they don't "sell", they won't be on tour! As a businessman who invest millions of dollars into artists "dreams" Simon Cowell has every right to critique those artists who aspire to that career. He's been very successful and his opinion should be respected. Having said that, I don't believe he's always correct.

I don't know. You don't need to be able to sing to do his job. You need a trained ear. The thing that helps you most with this is playing a stringed instrument with a bow. (violin, viola...)
