Do you like the new Nightwish singer?!

Question: Just curious, does anyone like the new singer for Nightwish, Annette Olzon? I don’t. She doesn't have a bad voice or anything, but it doesn’t come close to Tarja’s powerful voice. And it's just not Nightwish without Tarja. What do you think of Tarja's solo stuff? I like it. It's beautiful, but it doesn’t compare to Nightwish.

So my questions are,
Do you like the new singer?
Do you like Tarja’s solo stuff?

I like Anette. She has brought only good to the band. I've seen Nightwish live twice, once with Tarja and once with Anette. While the performance with Tarja was brilliant at the time, after seeing them with Anette, I see just what they are capable of. The band now interact with each other on stage, they hug, laugh and involve the audience and just have a great time on stage. Anette even goes up the front row in the crowd and shakes their hands (I got to shake her hand), Tarja would NEVER do that. With Tarja, this didn't happen, the band looked miserable, they didn't interact with each other and really didn't look like they were having as much fun as they should be.

It's also good to remember that the new music was written before a new singer was found, so it's not Anette who has brought this 'major' change, it was happening before she joined the band. It's the direction the band want to take. As Tuomas said, there was no point trying to find another Tarja, the new singer would just end up being a Tarja clone and always live in her shadow. They needed to find someone who was different but still with enough range to live up to previous Nightwish standards.
Don't get me wrong, I love Tarja as a singer, but I don't like her as a person. I have no time for divas who think they are the band. This was the reason that Nightwish were forced to sack Tarja and find a new singer. It was that or disband. I'm personally happy that they found another singer and continue to compose music.

I don't like Tarja's solo music. I do however think that the distorted guitars reminscent of metal distored guitars that are found in "I Walk Alone" quite hilarious.

Yes, I do like Anetter very much. Her voice is better with the new stuff. DPP is a great album. Tarja even though a good singer is too opera sounding for me (although I like Simone of Epica). Not to mention Anette is also better looking. I'm not a person to judge music on looks but this is an exception. Anette gives them a more rock sound rather than a darker sound like Tarja did.

I really love Anette Olzon's voice, it's so beautiful and soprano. A bit lighter sounding that Tarja though, Tarja gave the band it's signature dark epic vocals. I pretty much love the new album as much as I did the old ones shockingly.

The thing with Tarja is she gives me chills and has a very good and powerful voice as you've said. I've dabbled in her solo works and she does sound fabulous on her own, but she's not nearly as well known on her own than she was in Nightwish. But yes, I love her music, but she was so much better in Nightwish rather on her own. I am so disappointed she left.

But I like both the singers. :) I am a really big fan of female fronted metal/gothic rock bands like Within Temptation and Epica, Lacuna Coil etc.
