Question: its emotion that gets one to play an instrument in the first place, you really can't separate the emotion if your using the instrument to express yourself. I would say its about equivalent to having a human head to the body. Its not alive without it.

It is so important, otherwise a solo or a the melody won't have "depth." Think of how you feel listing in the song and put it in your mind when you play.
