Progressive rock and alternative rock. I've been a progressive rock fan since the 70s, when I was a fan of bands like Yes, Rush, Kansas, Genesis, King Crimson, UK, and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. Lately I've been listening to the new progressive bands like Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, and Symphony X.
My favorite alternative band is They Might Be Giants. Their music is what Todd Snider would call "alternative to alternative". They have a totally unique sound, mixing everything from jazz to polkas with their quirky rock and even quirkier lyrics.
I'm a big fan of Sarah McLachlan too, but her best music almost defies classification.
METAL ROCK ANYTHING MOSTLY,BUT NOT HIP HOP
90's music is still much better to listen than 2000ish music.
