You probably want to start with learning the stings, scale progression, and reading music before jumping into songs. Besides, pop bass isn't nearly as complex as jazz bass. Check out Glenn Miller's band for some good starting points with walking bass riffs. If you're not into that, Chilli Peppers have solid bass.
Start with some classic albums:
Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
Fear - The Record
Black Flag - First 4 Years
The Clash - The Clash
Learn the tracks from those albums by heart and you'll be ready to go.
