Kool-Aid bands?!

Question: I've been hearing that term being used alot around here. I know Kool-Aid bands are like Fall Out Boy or Panic at the Disco...or at least that's what people have been describing them as. Anyway, I was just wondering, how did the term Kool-Aid band develop? I mean, what does crappy indie music have to do with a powdered drink?

It's a reference about Jim Jones he was a cult leader who brainwashed alot of people, into drinking this poisonous juice that led people into committing suicide. That's where the term drinking the Kool- Aid came from. Kool-Aid bands is a reference on how these kids worship the bands. I do admit I do use the term alot on here lol.

I found an article on it from wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_jones

because they both stain stuff.

FOB stained the minds of little fags
and KoolAid stains **** too

It is a term used to describe emo bands.

'Cause the kool-aid man is their idol.

Flavor of the month

jonestown

I think the term comes from the fact that you can "just add water" and they'll be tasty.

However, Fallout Boy and Panic at the Disco have been and never will be tasty.

"kool-aid bands" are "emo" bands.
tho i dont get why panic at the disco or fall out boy are "emo".
theyre two of the best bands out there.
=/

Heard the term the first time from APC. And I strongly agree with his answer.

APC nailed it.
Also, please please please don't try to classify those bands as indie. Indie by definition means independant, new sounding, and not on a huge record label at least at first, and the Kool-Aid bands do not fit any of that description.

As they are classified by iTunes:
MCR: Alternative, hard rock, rock, punk, adult alternative
FOB: Alternative, punk, adult alternative
PATD: Alternative, Punk, rock

Obviously the "Rock" thing is a little sketchy in itself here, ditto the "adult alternative" because this is a) not listened to by adults, and b) the mainstream.
