Pick anybody's any number symphony and really listen to it. Analyze it, pick out the inside harmonies, question why the composer chose which instruments for the melodies and harmonies.
... I have yet to find that piece of music that makes me think "lots of laughs." Why was that lol even there?
If you have some time on your hands, listen to Wagner's "Ring of the Nibelung" operas. They total about 16 hours, but it's totally worth it. They're absolutely epic.
Also, if you don't speak German, it might help to look up a plot synopsis - the story is pretty interesting.
