RHH listeners, what exactly is it you want?!

Question: I see alot of comments on here about the radio, mostly coming from nostalgics, underground fans, or self-proclaimed "real hip hop" heads I got a question, what exactly is it you want? do you want the radio to play all underground so we can have the same lack of balance you cry about now? do you want the radio to play Common, Lupe, and Talib 24/7 so we can have um, o yea; that same lack of balance you cry about now? or maybe you want to just listen to what you like for once? i dont see the problem, if your at your home; you dont have to listen to the radio, in the car; you dont have to listen to the radio, if your a "real hip hop head" wut u doin goin near a radio anyways, i thought that was rule #1

To be completely honest, I just want something to complain about. (so does everybody else, just admit it) (or just hit the thumbs up if you're embarrassed to admit it)

I don't even own a radio!!!

There should be stations for new stuff and other stations for good stuff.

#1- dont talk about fight club
#2- You do Not talk about fight club!!

radios been extinct. undergound fans dont want to listen to the radio, probably wouldnt even like it if their favorite underground artists were on the radio anyways. double edged sword. I just want to listen to my music, and leave everything else out of the equation.

--edit--
i tivo rap city everyday. lupe and talib get spins daily on that damn show, if common dropped a new single he would too. their mainstream!! shlt talibs on tha carter 3.

i want a mix~ meaning at least a few radio stations in all the major cities that play pre 1997 hip hop and underground so those of us that do listen to it and sometimes dont feel like luggin cds around everywhere (in the car to work ect) can listen to the radio and enjoy it... plus it would help us catch the news on some of our favorite artists that never get talked about bcuz they r too busy promoting and discussing how great the nex solja boy song is......
all i would like to see is an underground/ oldies and classics station for hip hop they have it for rock and other types of music so i dont think its asking too much

I'm going to co-sign Mechanical... IDC about what's being played on the radio because I don't listen to it, nor do I watch BET or MTV for music videos... I search for artists and songs that I will enjoy so i'm content.

EDIT: You know what, when it comes to things you enjoy... You have to LOOK for it. You have to go through greater lengths to get the things you want. For instance, Saturday morning I got up and thought, "I remember when I could get up Saturday morning and watch ALL of the hot cartoons. These kids nowadays get these sucky cartoons. on regular tv." But, if you want the great or new cartoons... You either have to go buy them at a store on VHS or DVD or even get better shows on satellite TV. Jeez... The same could be said for music, all genres... You may have to go through greater lengths to get it, but you can.

LOL@ this thread...

I dont listen to the radio, but i DO want to be able to turn it on and ACTUALLY hear a good song. I want to be excited about new artists i hear on the radio and not have to suffer another bore. Yea i have my collection, my ipod goes from NaS to Rakim to Earth Wind and Fire to Red Hot Chilli Peppers...problem is...I know these songs already. It would be nice to hear something good without havin to dig 4 it.

HNIC, I agree with you. I like the 90's stuff because I was a teen then. I also know Hip Hop must evolve. It's in a crappy state now, but I don't wanna see it go backwards either (buy the way I sell on both of my Buy or Sell Q's). We (the older Hip Hop heads) must let the new generation do their thing.

I have to listen to the radio at work I get annoyed with the radio because they have SOOOOOOOO much music there why do they need to play the same 4 songs over and over again. the only time they play good music is at lunch time for an hour and im in my car then. I must hear Independent and crank that atleast 2 times in an hour it would be nice if they would atleast mix it up.......and i LOVE talib but i wouldnt want them to play him 24/7 but it would be nice if they played it some times.

honestly.. i was thinking about the same thing this weekend, and what I realized (which is a little off topic, but anyways)

is that with the whole radio thing is...

the problem, that i find, with the radio (besides the abundanceof hip-pop that they play) is that.. when they do play singles by reputable artists, that fall under the category, of "real hip-hop" is that they are so late on the singles, that by the time they put them on the radio.. I;ve already played them out myself.. so when they reach the raio-waves.. I'm already tired of those tracks.

ONE THING I WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO ALL UNDERGROUND FANS AND "REAL HIP-HOP FANS"

satellite radio.

here, you can find multitudes of radio stations that stray away from the commercialized hip-hop and play mostly, what we call "real hip-hop"

We want a balance. Thats what made the 90s so beautiful. You had Tupac and you had Biggie. Biggie had radio-friendly tracks that were getting played, and Pac had not so radio-friendly songs that were also getting heavy rotation. We want a balance. I like conscious hiphop, but I honestly wouldnt want to listen to it all the time. I would have no problem at all with Soulja Boy type tracks, if maybe every 3 songs were followed by a Lupe, Common, or Talib type track.

I hate strictly underground hip hop fans, who limit themself to people like Immortal Technique and those independant people. There is nothing wrong with people who are signed to a record label and make millions doing their thing. There is nothing wrong with people who talk about cars and cash and street life etc. These underground hip hop fans really piss me off. You wonder why these artists are not signed....ITS CUZ THEY ARE NOT MARKETABLE!...people do not wanna listen to music talking about how terrible life is and all that serious s**t. If I wanted to hear that sort of thing I would spend my spare time watching the news.

ill know what i want when i hear it.......

right now, i want ni99er to be released

I don't listen to the radio either. My main problem with it is that there is no personality there. When I was growing up (late 80s, early 90s), local radio was a reflection of the community that it served. I discovered several local artists because of that.

However, once the Telecommunications Act of 1996 passed, ClearChannel was allowed to purchase as many stations as they wanted and they turned those local radio programs into a homogenous group of same-sounding emptiness. FM radio is now essentially the same thing as Wal-Mart. If you listen to an urban station in Philly, Dallas, Seattle, Miami, wherever...they're all going to sound the same. In some cases they've even done away with DJs. Where's the independence?

yeah youre right.... id love to hear real hip hop on the radio 24/7. common, talib, mos def, lupe, immortal technique, dead prez, jedi mind tricks, wu tang clan, nas, krs on the radio would be fine with me. id carry the thing around even when im taking a shower

I already figured out this question.

My solution:
I got an ipod. My music, my songs...any time I want.

who are you? the king of rap? you gonna fix everything?

the market is saturated with one hit wonders. ringtone musicians. radios stations ain't showin love to the ones who deserve it. all you hear now is rappers talkin bout "i got this. i can buy that" its all commercial. Common Lupe and Kweli are cool but trust me there are more rappers. you picked ones that rap about knowledge. but rap is more than that. what about beef. the east west beef was cool. back in the days us in the west hated the east. now you got these fake *** kids dressin like they from the east.
the radio is the number one way of listenin to music. its different now but it is still the way of keeping your ear to the streets on what is hot.

I would like some sort of balance. I don't really listen to the radio or watch TV for videos, however; when I decide to do so, it would be nice, if I didn't see/hear the same stuff over and over and over again coming from different Artist.

What's a radio...?

Peace, Me

i just listen to the radio in other peoples cars. i dont get pissed at the radio and sometimes it plays good stuff. not everything is bad on the radio for example the game is sometimes on the radio, nas is sometimes on the radio, stuff like that.

Shiiiit I only listen to the radio to hear the Rus Par show or Mike Baisden...but other then that...I listen to my cds...

To answer the question...I would love to have BALANCE period...there is always gonna be wack shiiit coming out but come on...Im tired of the clone rap thats out...dat all(not saying that the music these artist make is all bad...but how many times can u listen to a KHALED<WAYNE<BABY<PLIES AND ROSS<<<lets not forget TPAIN on every remix all starts to sound the same after awhile)...but what can u do...the youth wants to hear this shiiiit constantly...so it is what it is....like you said thats why we have MP3's CD's and the greatest thing in XM radio....Only time I enjoy the radio is during the mid day mix...Its an example of BALANCE

now i dont listen 2 much of talib and common so people dont think im a real hip hop head but i dont give a sh*t so here i live in ireland and i never listen 2 radio cause here if u turn on da radio u only will hear 2 things
1.rock music
2.pop
so i never listen 2 da radio i just get da cds and oh yeah da question is what i want ill tell u what i want..........

1.for these so called rhh fans 2 get a life and just listen 2 all hip hop
2.FOR THE CARTER 3 TO FINALLY COME OUT!!!
