Any guitarists out there?!

Question: I was wondering what kind of 'around-the-house cleaner', if any, I could use on the body (not fretboard, etc) of my acoustic guitar. Someone told me I could use windex if I was very careful...do any of you use this or another common product? The Music store is so far from where I live and I dont really want to wait a week to order cleaner from the internet. Thanks...

Fender mist and wipe is a great product for the record...I use it on my electric.

I would not use anything other than a damp cloth or micro fiber cloth on an acoustic. Any chemicals could damage the wood and/or finish easily...

I just use a general house cleaning agent to clean my guitar...I just have to make sure not to get too much in between the buttons...The green and red ones have been giving me a bit of trouble lately...But, that's what we musicians have to put up with, right?

Gee, I though Dave S's response was quite helpful as well, and not at all sarcastic...Oh well.

Dave S's reply was spot on and had no sarcasm in it. Stop projecting your insecurities on to other people.

Yes, you can use windex if you absolutely want, or any other gentle/mild household cleaner on your guitar, as long as you are careful. Mild! No bleach!

Honestly, though, a damp rag really should do the trick. If you have a polyurethane finish (ie, colored plastic) you can use a cleaner or guitar polish or something, but I would only use a damp cloth on a natural finish guitar (ie, where you can see the wood through lacquer or something).
