How can I give my guitar a really whiny sound?!

Question: like a crying sound or as if I was putting a lot of strain on the strings?

i think what your talking about are pinch harmonics or "Squeelies" theres this really good youtube video that practically explained to me how to make them and i learnt them in no time at all. i would send you a link but my computer is screwed up and won't let me for some reason. but you just search "pinch harmonics" on youtube and click on the first one. the user name of the guy who uploaded the video is "JustinSandercoe". its a 10:07 long vid...really informative, the guy also has free lessons on his site and some really good youtube vids.

untune it? lolol

Wha Peddel (Sorry I Probobly Didint Spell It Right)

Try this:
Move your fingers on the fret continuously while playing

A wah Pedal would do the trick. But if you want a "super-jump" of several octaves (2-3 octaves, I think), it can be done by using a Digitech Whammy pedal.

But the most basic way to achieve that sort of effect without the aid of any pedals is by bending the string.

Putting your pickups out of phase (and optionally also using a wah just right) while bending would do that... especially with just a touch of overdrive to get those overtones out....

If you can't put your pickups out of phase you could try rolling some treble off, with just a touch of gain, and again ever so careful with the wah doing some bendy slidey stuff.

I imagine that you could get a similar effect with an Ebow, so you don't have that sharp pick attack at the beginning of the note.

PS My original answer was going to be getting your guitar to dress in black clothes, write extremely bad poetry, wear nail polish, listen to MCR and Fallout Boy, and complain about how no one understands them. =)
