Answers: songs generally take about at least a couple of the following...

riffs, chord progressions, fills, and solos

practice the notes and make up a song while practicing

Just choose one or two songs you like, mess them up a bit -playing them backwards is an easy way- change the tempo, alter the lyrics and voila: a hit in your pocket!!!!!!

You have two options.

Lyrics first or music first.

Sometimes for beginners it's easier to go the lyrics first route.

One trick I did was to search for song lyrics, pick a song I didn't know, copy the lyrics and then try to put them to music.

Just start with basic simple chords or a rhythm and later you can add fills, riffs, a solo or some lead guitar.

Tabliture paper, a pencil, and a guitar.

An idea and talent

You can either write lyrics first or the music first..

If you want to write lyrics first
Sit down and write down a song title (you can change the song title later, but this is what the song will be about))
For ex .. - My guitar.
Think what you want to write about your guitar - how? why?what? when ?
I say try this - sit down with a book.. And write down some song titles.. topics that interest you.
In songs you often discover new stuff.
Dont just write a song if you know everything about the topic.. Be open to it, dont have expectations of how it will come out.. Watch and see it come out.

2nd option .. write on a guitar.
Learn some chord progressions..
Blink 182 is a good band to look at if you are looking at chord progressions.. they have simple chords you can base songs on.
Steal chord progressions off other songs(its legal) then write a melody for it (how to sing it) and then put in your lyrics..
Add in riffs to chords, solos etc.
