Dookie, Insomniac are two of the best rock albums of the 90s during a time when they were actually punk rock. American Idiot however brought bandwagoners on both sides of spectrum (fans/haters)...one in it for their image and the other hating without any knowledge of the band/"it's the cool thing to do".
Still, I await their new album.
theyre an okay band with a few good songs. overall.. not very good. theyre drum beat and rythm guitar rifts are way to easy
I like them. Yes, the older music was better. However, I think that they are one of the better mainstream bands out there today. My favorite songs are Basket Case, She, Welcome To Paradise, and Jesus of Suburbia.
i think that they're one of those bands that have like four good songs and then just no one ever hears about them. i dont like them because they were to brief
I thought dookie was a great album but most the rest is just mediocre
I liked them initially, and I got American Idiot for Christmas one year, and I liked the idea of them for a while, just with the anti-Bushness and all I guess, but then I noticed that every time one of their songs would come up on my shuffle I was skipping past it, which made me realise that I don't actually like any of their songs. I also don't much like their sellout-ishness, it seems like all their songs sort of cater to a specific audience, not that I can quite figure out what this audience is supposed to be any more.
They're not bad.
Their lyrics are truthful... I LOVE american idiot! it's so TRUE!
i don't like them at all because of their newset cd American Idiot and it constantly being played all the time. the only song i like by them is Good Riddance (time of your life)
I like all the songs I have ever heard by them, which have only been the songs that were released as singles on MTV/radio. I like them because to me they sound like their influences include bands like The Clash, Rolling Stones, to name a couple. They are the epitome of rock and roll or punk/rock
I like Green Day, their lyrics are very expressive and thoughtful. They were at their peek before they got too mainstream, but you can tell they were singing about that they felt prior to that...and that's how I define 'good music'.
Honestly, I dislike them as a band. I don't hate their music, just what they've done. I mean, their music is incredibly generic pop being passed off as punk, and there doesn't seem to be much WRONG with that. I mean, people consume what's put in front of them, so they'll consume Green Day as much as anything else. If there wasn't Green Day, someone like them would fill their vacancy.
It's just that punk has lost its meaning, and Green Day still seems to ACT like they're punk. They noticed their career was going downhill after the embarassing "Warning" album, so they hopped on the Anti-Bush train that was ALREADY going 100MPH with artists who had called out Bush, and released an album based on that. Funny how they had an album already made, then it somehow got destroyed/lost. That basically means "Hey, this album won't sell as much as a cheap and generic Anti-Bush record would, so let's scrap this and do that."
Hell, they didn't even do their huge tour in any American countries. If they were a shred of punk...if they halfway believed the lyrics they wrote, they would have done that huge tour in the USA instead of preaching to the choir(foreign countries with no love for Dubya).
They're sellouts. I've explained why. Their music isn't terrible, it's just generic pop music. I prefer my music to be interesting and meaningful, so I avoid Green Day.
They're not really my style. They say they're punk, but Green Day doens't sound very punk to me. Also, alot of people like them and I usually don't go for popular stuff. I heard something about them being sellouts, but I didn't really pay attention to it.

they suck a$$. their songs are just listenable. nothing reaches out to me tht says "hey we r working hard to achieve our dreams of being rockstars." they just seem like they r just making meaningless music and just hanging there. unlike other bands who make music tht u can relate to, and just trying to b tht next band evry one would remember. WHO DA HELL WOULD REMEMBER GREEN DAY?

They totally rock...why ????Their lyrics have meaning and soul you can actually relate to them.....But where are they nowadays?? I haven't heard a new song from them ever since 2k6
They rock. I love their songs, the reason..well they're like me. Not all of them though. And some are just plain old pointless. American Idiot has a nice melody, but I don't like the lyrics. :P
hate em, hate em, hate em! I hate them because their song American Idiot is racist and terrible. I can probably sing better than their singer and NO ONE likes to hear me sing!
They can't play their instruments at all. The only decent person in their band is the drummer. Altogether they are TERRIBLE. Their songs are so annoying! I can't stand them, they play them on the radio too much. Their OVERATED!

Short Answer: They have a place in history.
Long Answer: I'm not a Green Day fan, really. It's not my type of music. (I'm more electronica and classic rock).
However, in lieu of the War in Iraq, only a handful of bands were able to criticize the war, the government, AND be commercially successful. (A lot of bands criticized the war through their music, and they were flops in sales).
"American Idiot" was ridiculously huge, including the title track, "Wake Me Up When September Ends", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", and "Holiday".
Just like the 60's and the Vietnam War, our generation has a series of anti-war anthems.
Historically, when we look back at the music of this decade, the wave of anti-war music will be led by bands like Green Day and albums like "American Idiot".
So like them or not, they are relevant and they deserve some respect.
Green Day has been an influential band for many uprising stars such as boys like girls and maroon 5. they have many #1 hits through their history. their singer billie joe is a very great rocker. the bass mike dirnt and drummer tre cool are very rock and roll type too. they just are great i have been a fan since 8 and i'm now 14.
I think they're a neat little band. Not the best, but not the bringers of death to rock and punk like so many would have you believe. The make good poppy tunes with punky guitars and I don't see a thing wrong with that. Punk never had a definition anyway, I'm not saying I agree with everything they say or do, but their music is very enjoyable, although I usually only take them in small doses.
A few good songs? Way to go "Chuckie", what are you 12? Don't answer questions about bands you have no idea about...I love Green Day...I agree their older material is better, but good gawd, they have grown up & no longer need to write about wacking it alone in a hotel room (allthough Dookie was & is my favorate album).....Bottom line, they are a great band that doesn't get enough credit...
I like theyre early stuff. Dookie, nimrod, warning, and i got american idiot. and yes theyre sellouts. they changed their style so they would be popular. They went to modernerize to get on the charts. And for that, they lost a lot of fans, just changing theyre sound, even though they were one of the most beloved punk bands of the 90s
I have International Superhits and have played it to death. Love every song on it. Gave Dookie to one of my kids when I got IS, and he shortly collected all of their CDs. We like 'em.
