Your favorite band...that isnt all over the radio or real popular? im always on !

Question: if you could tell me one band that i have to listen to that you think is likely i havent heard, who would it be?

dont be captain obvious and say chili peppers, etc.

it could be any genre, dont worry about that. plus, im intrigued by all this death, power, melo, etc. metal talk lately. anything is welcome...

example: Roxel talks about Nevermore all the time, so i downloaded a song off of itunes the other day.

Mahavishnu Orchestra, jazz fusion. You don't hear much jazz fusion on the radio. They're too busy playing Led Zeppelin on classic rock stations and Miles Davis on jazz stations (no disrespect to both artists). I guess you could call them popular in the fusion realms, but not so much here.

Yeasayer, psychedelia sorta band with world influences. "2080" and "No Need to Worry" are undoubtedly some of the best tracks of 2007. With the genres they mix together, there's no way they would get radio airplay or be popular these days.

Orange Peel, hard rock/progressive rock. They only have one album, but holy crap that one eighteen minute track is the only long song above fifteen minutes that I can handle currently. Guitar/organ awesomeness.

Clutch, bluesy stoner rock/metal. I believe they're getting more and more popular these days, but they haven't quite hit mainstream yet. Devoted fanbase for sure though. Got some great basslines, riffs, solos, vocals, drumming, songwriting...with a touch of uniqueness.

Electric Wizard, doom metal. The heaviest band...ever. One of their songs--"Barbarian"--was tuned six steps down I believe. No...not just one of their songs. A whole lotta them. Heavy guitar, heavy bass, hard-to-hear vocals that are somewhat distorted, and overall slow as ****.

Yeah...more than one, but whatever. Some of my favorites that aren't too well-known that I'm sure you haven't heard of (or heard much of).

The Helio Sequence. Very catchy, well written songs, kinda indie if you're looking for a label.

Murder By Death. Different. That's all I can really say. Kind of a cabaret sound to them...which brings me to......

The Dresden Dolls. Piano, feminine angst, "big words" and deep concepts to trivial and spiteful lyrics. Fun fun fun.

Definitely not metal, but as a former hardcore metalhead I still appreciate all of the above. Hope you check them out and enjoy.

For the sake of contributing a harder-edge:

Otep. Feminine fury, pure and simple.
Nothingface. Raucous but full of hooks and decent melodies.

eta: don't mean to be redundant, but I realize that "chick singers" can be a deal breaker for some. Makes no sense to me, but more often than not, I feel that I've had to defend a band I like simply because it's female-fronted. Those listed are not exactly girl power music, much less "grrrrl power," it's just a disclaimer for those less open-minded.

Alkaline Trio
Armor For Sleep
Senses Fail
Funeral For a Friend (are they on the radio much?)
MxPx
The Lawrence Arms
Slapstick (defunct)
Dead To Me
One Man Army (defunct)

Black Lips

"The Goo Goo Dolls" are a really good alternative band..
Lets see, "Zebrahead" is cool (they're metal) .
I love "Less Than Jake" , they're ska punk, very fun to listen to.
"The Living End" are allright, they're punk too.
"Theory of a Deadman" is also pretty good, they're more alternative.
On a more Gothic note, "Type O Negative" and "Nightwish" of course, but Nightwish is more power metal.
"Rancid" another good punk rock band.
And last but not least, "The Explosion". A very good punk band.
Enjoy :)

Against Me! - Thrash Unreal

Showbread - Mouth Like A Magazine
Thrice- Image of the Invisible
