he's really both...no one can completely deny his ability to write amazing lyrics, which comes as a result of being one of the deepest and most complex figures in the history of rock and roll...on that same token, he clearly was a young man who was very troubled, regardless of whether or not his death was a murder or suicide
i think when you consider his lyrics closely, it's not too difficult to decipher what he is talking about, but despite the overblown popularity of it his best piece is smells like teen spirit...lyrically, it's easily one of nirvana's best, and the simplicity of the song structure made it so popular because it was easy to follow

Lyrical God and psycho freak(helps the song writing) I love him but the craziest lyric that I will never understand is in All Apologies - it goes "Aqua Seafoam Shame" For years I thought he was saying " I foresee some shame" which I think would actually be a better fit. My favorite and probably the simplest song by him is SLiver

He was a complex person, awesome songwriter, okay guitar player, probably just a little crazy. (then again, I've always thought that everyone has some sort of insanity in them)

nirvana had nothing to do with metal it was actually grunge.

i heard a cool song from him, i forget what its called but it says grandma didnt know or something. i looked up the lyircs with that clue on google but it just had a lot of some mike guys stuff. it had a cool bass line
but of course i must sound like a poser and say i love lithium, it was just a really good song lol.

'Smells Like Teen Spirit' came from when he slept with a girl and she wrote 'Kurt smells like Teen Spirit' and he thought it was a good title. He didn't know it meant the deoderant, so he made it the title of the song. At least i'm told.

I think the 2 go hand in hand. His lyrics were raw. He seemed like a genuine person, slightly screwed up in the mind, but genuine nonetheless.

He was extermly influenced by Indie rock and his lyrics are only mildly starnge compared to many of the late 80s earlpy 90s indie. Plus many of his songs came from poems he wrote. He would combine sevral poems into one song so it wont always make sense.
