Help with piano?!


Question: in this peice, what do the little boxes above the staff line mean i THINK it ,means to move your hand to that postition but im not sure. can someone plz clarify?

Yes, they are guitar tabs (the grid-like boxes) and above that is jazz/pop notation (i.e. C/G, C7, etc) The jazz/pop notation is there so that you can comp/improv if you wanted to (so you would see the harmonies quickly) or if you couldn't read music well and just wanted to play the basic chord structures with little embellishment, etc. The guitar tabs are most likely there so that you could play it with a guitarist and "jam-out" if you wanted to. Most pop sheet music will have that.

I don't think those are for the piano

Those are just the chords your playing (in guitar notation I can't figure out why they would put that on piano music but...)

They are chord boxes, they show the finger positions on the neck of the guitar to create the indicated chord.

... of course, chord boxes can exist for any fretted instrument (banjo, lute, bass, etc.) they just happen most often for guitar.
