wikihow.com...........http://www.wikihow.com/Play-Guitar

I learned using (sounds gay) videos. Go online & buy a DVD by some washed up rocker that could really play the guitar. You'll learn a ton from a dude that really needs the cash.

u cant really learn overnight or on the internet just get ur self a teacher and tell him to teach u the basics so then u can learn watever u want

Tabs are your friend. Learn to read them and fast.

Take things slow. Buy a metronome and start things at a slow beat and bring it up to speed.

I know how to play guitar and the best thing I'd say to do is to get some songs that you like together and learn how to play those. Easiest way to do that is by learning how to read Tablature which isn't very hard to do at all. UltimateGuitar.com has tons of Tabs for tons of songs of every genre. The next thing you need to do is practice everyday.

umm.... i have been playing guitar for 9 years, and i'm sorry but if you think you can make a band after playing a year you are way wrong my freind (well you can, but you will be the suckiest band on the face of the earth). power chords, hmm sounds like metal or rock. you should take lessons, if money is an issue just take a few to learn the basics, like notes, chords and all that crap. after you take lessons for a few months go on the internet and get tabs of bands u like

First of all, its awsome ur getting into music. I play too. ( and the alto sax, and the 'recorder' -same as clarinet- , and the piano) I cant really give you tips on playing becuase everyone learns differently. But I can say its easy to let practicing slip under ur schedule. I know from expeirience that its easy to just put it off and eventually forget everything you worked hard for. The best advice I can give you is to stick to it and keep it a regular thing. You'll be rock'n in no time!!!

i taught my self guitar, i never took a lesson or had a teacher. how i basically got started was, i bought one of those beginner guitar books, and trust me, you learn a lot from them. then i learnt chords from the book, and went on the playing songs. power chords aren't that hard to learn trust me. but you should have a friend whose experienced with guitar so that he can help you with any concerns. and so he/she can make sure you have proper hand positions.

here's a great site with free guitar lessons, the guy who runs the site also has really informative youtube video's

i know it's a cliche but practice your a$s off...

im also trying to do the same thing.
so i have no idea.im getting a teacher.
so sorry

giving yourself a deadline to learn an instrument is a bad idea in general, its not a book report you know? If you rush through the basics with some specific destination then it will show in your playing, my advice is always the same, just play guitar with someone way better than you, emulate them, ask questions, basically pretend to be as good and before you know it you will be,
and of course dont forget the way to Carnegie Hall
