Getting a guitar?!

Question: I have been playing guitar for about 4 months and I'm actually really good. I currently only own an acoustic but I am also borrowing an electric guitar from a friend. I really want to get my own guitar that is different than the one I'm using. But My parents say I can't get my own guitar until later. Even if I say i'll use my own money they say "It's just not something you need. You have a perfectly fine guitar."
They actually said that, for my birthday in June, they would get me one of those squier guitar kits for beginners. I would've been playing for 8 months by then. Now they're saying they'll buy me a guitar for next Christmas.
Does this make any sense to anybody? What should I do?

If you are serious about playin, then show them. Practice whenever you can, and let them hear you practicing. Mention alot how you love playin the guitar. Talk about starting a band. Tell them why buy something you're not gonna be able to gig with (meaning any of those beginner packages). I play Ibanez guitars exclusively, Js 1000 and JS 2000 series. Being a parent myself those are the kind of thimgs I would want to hear. Good luck.

Ask your parents to save that money and put it towards buying a Gibson Les paul or SG. That's the best present you can ever be given.

go with a telecaster, sg, or les paul. or an ibanez. it really depends on what style you wanna play. your best bet is to go to the musical instrument store and try them out.

btw my first guitar was those squire begginer kits. but i later traded the guitar in for an epiphone les paul they are good for starters. but if your planning on buying a guitar for keeping for a long period of time, don't buy the kit, buy something more decent. squire's don't have the best quality wood or tone. but their not horrible. if money's an issue, go for the kit. if money's not a problem, try something more decent.

You better think about that, cause gutiars, especially good vintage guitars can hold their value, meaning you can sell it for the same price you bought it for. Fender, Gibson and Rickenbachers have held their value even when you decide to sell it later. The are the same as vintage cars. I don't think your parents really know but then again they are being parents.
