I think the song The Bitter End sounds more like metal. I credit them for trying. Thats good for them. I actually quite enjoyed their Chuck album, owning a copy myself.

I think its cute and funny how their trying to pull off Metal!
I really don't think they can pull it off.
Just my opinion.

that was their old album and it was years ago. they did that because of two reasons. first of all, before recording their album, they went to a war torn country i forgot what it was, anyways, they went to make a documentary or something to spread the message and stuff. and they were almost killed and saved by a canadian UN solider named "chuck", hence the name of the album. so they wanted to make a more heavier and more meaningful album cause of their experiences in that country. and the second reason is, as you said, because their lead guitarist dave baksh aka brownsound, is a big fan of heavy metal, its his fav genre to play. and he's always been itching to play it since he picked up the guitar. and he said in interviews that he's been always practising heavy metal in his spare time. and while he was still in sum 41, he made a metal band side project called brown brigade with his cousin. then eventually he left the band and focused fully on brown brigade. but now sum 41 is back to their pop sound but its worse now that dave isn't in the band to contribute with lead guitar licks like the old sum 41... i applaud him for leaving the band, no matter how much money he would of made, he's way too talented for sum 41. sum 41 now are just sell outs

Compare them to Venom.... they're nothing....

meh, his voice just isn't metal...

The only thing more pathetic and lame than Sum 41 attempting punk rock is Sum 41 going all "hardcore" on us. Spare me, PLEASE! Nothing that Deryck Whibley does can ever be taken seriously. I mean, look at the guy. He is wuss personified. He attempts to dish out worldly wisdom when he hasn't been on the planet long enough to have a clue. I don't appreciate knucklehead poseurs preaching to me.

I've been hearing that particular song for at least a couple years now stateside. I can honestly say I'd hate it even without knowledge that it was done by Sum 41. Whibley would be far better served merely being Avril's cabana boy.
