The beatles had bad vocals??!
Question: ive never been familiar with the beatles, and now that american idol is doing beatles songs, i really love them and what the contestants have done with them. but when i listen to the original version, i dont think the beatles sang very well.. does anyone else notice this?

I know what you mean, and I got the idea that you're not trying to insult them.
The Beatles had simple vocals, but it was their songs and the music behind them that made them famous. That's the difference between the music back then to the music today: the vocals seem more important and the music and melody lost value.
That's why some of the judges criticized some of the contestants for rearranging the songs: you can't really do that to a Beatles song.
An artist's voice isn't the ONLY thing that make them popular. This is especially true or early rock and pop music. Elvis (my favorite artist of all-time) wasn't really an awesome singer but his presence is what made him. His overall entertainment value. This is also true with the Beatles.
How can you think the beatles had bad vocals? they changed music about 16 times while they were together and they were only together for 7 years! they came out with 4 albums a year for a while! i have never noticed the bealtes didn't sing well. I think you should watch across the universe because in that movie they sing all beatles songs and you might begin to appreciate the beatles more!

Well there is not accounting or taste. What one person likes or thinks is a good vocal someone else might not care for. The Beatles best vocal work was early in their career before they got too studio oriented. They all did have dreadful Liverpudlian accents though which had an effect on their sound. But it was recognizable which is more than I can say for a lot of Idol contestants.
