Will playing Slayer/Metallica on a Fender Stratocaster damage the guitar??!

Question: a bunch of people on youtube have strats and play slayer, (not the hss strat), and get a bunch of comments saying its not meant to be played for that type of music (thrash metal). is the neck that fragile or what?

NO it will not damage the guitar. It is because the tone of a fender strat is thin, highlighting the high end of the tonal spectrum. While using an mahogany bodied, hum-bucking guitar produces a tone highlighting the lows and mids.

You will never be able to produce the desired tones that metal players achieve by playing a fender strat as it is not built for it. It was built for rock and county. When was the last time you saw metal guitarist thrashing out on a fender strat. Kirk Hammett played a single coil for One but you will notice that the riff he is playing a piercing high end tone while James' Explorer is the driving low end of the song.

If it doesn't damage, then you are not playing the song correctly

if you play it right and good

I am not an expert, but I would say that sounds like nonsense.

Depends how crazy you go!

No the guitar won't be damaged (lol).

Probably the commments you sawon youtube pertains to the sound produced. If it's not H-S-S then it's probably S-S-S. Well the problem with S-S-S config, the sound produced is quite "thin" for playing metal.

Well that's their opinion. They should have bought config's with Humbuckers incorporated in them (like H-S-H, S-S-H, pure humbucker guitars, or active p/u)

I think what they are saying is that a Fender Strat is too old school looking to be playing metal and should be playing Eric Clapton or something. They want you to get a Kerry King BC Rich or a Dimebag Dean.

No, it will not damage the guitar. Unless you get all wrapped up in the music and slam it into something, lol. It's not really ideal for that type of music, sound wise, but it will definitely stand up to the playing. Strats are pretty dang sturdy, so play away and enjoy.

I play metallica on a strat. Other than having to replace strings it doesnt do any real damage to the guitar. But I have to replace strings often no matter what type of guitar it is.

NO Fender Strats One of the best for that type of music.Wont hurt it unless ya slam on the stage or AMP
