Are Gibson Guitars worth their price tag??!

Question: ive heard some good stuff about them, and some really really bad stuff about them. bad stuff such as their quality control, paint jobs/finishes.

anyways, worth the price? or is there something better for the money?

Only if they are American made and you are a professional musician. I'm delighted I got my ES-333 b4 they discontinued them in favor of the 335 for another 1,000 bucks. I'm not a prof. musician so $2400 was 2 much to try to justify.
Unfortunately, you really do get what u pay for, so caveat emptor.

yes they are carved to perfection and look so hot

I can speak specifically for the acoustics only, but the answer is that they sound incredible. My grandfather has one that trumps the sound of any guitar I've ever heard.

Obviously, the largest determining factor is your budget, but if money is not an object, they really do give you your money's worth.

i know it isnt a gibson but vintage sgs are great guitars and worth what you pay for them.

It really depends on what you want to do with your guitars. If you want to light it on fire for fun, it's probably not worth the price. Myself, I own two electric Gibsons and they are both amazing. Definitely worth the purchase. As far as acoustic guitars are concerned, that is seriously a matter of preference. They very much sound different than other "popular" acoustic guitars, but as far as the playability is concerned, they are top notch. To be specific, it wouldn't be worth the price for me to have an acoustic Gibson, but it might be for other musicians.

Gibsons are great guitars, but now and then you get one that sucks. I have a friend who owns a Les Paul '62 reissue that is gorgeous, and it plays decent, but it is the worst sounding guitar I've ever heard. It never seems to intone properly, and it has the thinnest, tinniest sound in the world. Luckily he is only a collector and doesn't use the thing. Another of my friends has a '90 Les Paul Standard that is absolutely perfect. It has a wonderful, thick, and meaty tone, although the pickups are stock. It never seems to go out of tune, intones perfectly without needing adjustment, and is an all-around perfect, maintenance-free axe. If you can afford a Gibson, just make sure to try it out thoroughly before you buy it. Shop around and you can find the guitar you'll play for the rest of your life.

When buying a Gibson, you are just paying for the name. But, people will still buy them. But I have an Epiphone les Paul, and its pretty much exactly the same at a fraction of the Gibson price. But its really up to you. Overall, I would say that Gibson is NOT worth the price tags. The prices are just rediculous.

Gibson guitars are absolutely gorgeous. I visited the gibson guitar factory in Nashville.. all quality parts are used. The amount of work put into producing one of these guitars is incredible. Definately worth the price tag if you can afford it.

but for now i'll stick to my epiphone.
it does the job and to me its just as good as any gibson i've ever played.

Usually not. Get a Carvin.

Over the years I have owned a Gibson Melody Maker, a Gibson Les Paul Studio and recently my Gibson Les Paul Heritage Cherry Sunburst which I sold to the guitarist for "Black Stone Cherry". He played it on their first album. I have NEVER been disappointed by any Gibson instrument. Those who compare the Epiphones to Gibsons and say they are about the same are mistaken. About the only thing they have in common is the looks. If you dig deeper, you can see that Epi's use cheaper woods, cheaper electronics, bolt-on necks instead of neck-through-body, they are mass-produced and have a much looser inspection requirements when they leave the factory...etc. There is a huge difference. They are a very good investment, as well as very enjoyable to play, so they are very well worth the price.
