They are both good...they are very different songs...Freebird is a kickass southern rock anthem and Stairway to Heaven is a classic Led Zepplin Ballad....I prefer Zepplin to Skynard myself....even though I did see Freebird performed live...Led Zepplin is one of the best bands ever...
all these people are saying freebird just because it's freebird, Stairway to heaven has the better solo. And that other guy is right, it takes 3 guitarist to equal Jimmy Paige.
This is the easiest question I have answered so far today..Stairway to Heaven...Freebird is not even in the same class.
As far as the entire song goes, i think Stairway is better. But as far as the guitar solos go, Freebird wins. The last few minutes of it are just awesome!

My personal preference is 'Stairway To Heaven', but you have to remember that that is a 'one guitar' solo, whereas 'FreeBird' is a 'three guitar' solo!

Freebird is friggin awesome and skynard is also indescribable
but if i had to pick id go with Zeppelin.....
