Rap, Hip Hop and RnB are dying these days... Agree?!

Question: It's gone so commercial and pop it's not worth listening to anymore. I mean I was never a big fan of Rap and stuff but it's songs from the 90's are far more meaningful, and have far more effort put into them than the crap released nowadays.
Every now and then songs from 2Pac, Nas, Biggie and Dr. Dre's old stuff are great to listen to.

All that new "Crunk" sh*t is utter garbage. Soulja Boy and Lil' Jon are perfect examples, loud, obnoxious, ultra-simple beats, etc... Complete sh*t, excuse my language..

The lyrics are not even worth mentioning, but when you repeat the same 3 words on every song (Lil Jon') and dedicate entire songs to Bape Clothing (Soulja Boy), it's clear you have zero creativity or imagination..

Artists like 50 Cent, the rest of G-Unit, Eminem are just greedy, media wh*res, out there to exploit every possible dollar from stupid, ignorant teenagers with no taste.
They're not dedicated to what they do, all they care about is $$$ and living the "gangsta" lifestyle

Dying is all in the ear of the beholder. Or it depends on where your looking for good Hip-Hop.

If you dont like commercial rap than its best to ignore it.

Underground Hip-Hop is alive and well. Some good sites to find good Hip-Hop; www.undergroundhiphop.com www.720records.com

It doesnt make sense to me to complain over and over and over about commercialism when all I have to do is ignore it and go elsewhere.

wow, i agree with what you say. today much of this music sucks, i cant believe i use to listen to crap like that.

not all of them are like that. maybe they grew up "gangsta" life.maybe they didn't have it all.not all teenagers are ignorant like you said

well i totally agree.!!! nowadayz every one lissinz to slow romance songs......since 50 cent n all those usless songz started..
i miss 2 pac..:D

u think rap or rnb is dying? yaaaaa right they're makin so much of money anyway u know these they r the top in the industry. ur maybe listenin to only no tune songs

WOW. So I'm not the only one... The music these days sucks. not just rap but alot of stuff out there most popular music sounds like crap. These kids have no taste.

yes i agree today 90% of artist talk about all the money tbey have cars and everything give me some money since u got alot share

where have you been? rap/hip hop has been dead since 1997.

I agree 110%. Funny little story: I went to Best Buy a few weeks ago in search of a new cd....nothing....nothing I could even tolerate. So, I bought OutKast's old CD from 1994, Southernplayalisticadiallacmuzik. Great cd, way better than this bubble gum rap on the radio now.

Anyway, I don't like much rap now days. Both my husband and I listen to mostly 2pac's old albums and some other old school players. Tupac sang about trying to get out of the ghetto, how hard his life was, growing up without a dad, what is was like trying to stay faithful, jail, etc and now look what we've come to....'boots with the fur'....come on!!!! I hate rap now. I liked 50-cent's first CD, but your right he's a puppet for MTV and the media, just trying to get rich quick and it shows, his last CD sucked. The only rapper I really like even a little bit is Pitbull, but even his stuff isn't meaningful like Tupac's, it's not as bad as some of these others guys out there now. My opinion is rap has turned preppy....basically some kids/20-somethings whose parents have money try to buy them a thug image and buy them studio time. Yeah, fake rap doesn't sell to people like us, just teenagers who didn't remember how great tupac was or don't know any better. Isn't funny how OGs rapped about trying to get a better life when the rest of these posers are trying to buy a thug life. Idiots. And we have to stuffer by having no good music to listen to.

I agree with you all the way.I hate that "superman" song the most.

yes! too many, soulja boys, fergies, pretty rickys and sean kingstons!!!!

I completly disagree! Not all rappers are bad! Eve is good, Bow Wow, some of Ludacris songs are good too. Not all hip-hop and rap is bad! Some songs do send out a negative message but not all do. Dnt say its all bad! Some of these rockers and stuff need to clean it up too! They are cleaning rap and hip-hop up alot! Mary J. Blige is good, Chris Brown, Ciara, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Keyshia Cole, Musiq Soulchild... all good!

naw its not dying and i dont agree it hink ur going waaaaaaaaaaay to far with this and all the ignorant people who agree probably only listen to radio emiinem is a step above the majority of mc's out there so he has some silly songs music aint always supposed to be serious if u cant have fun with what u do then y do it?

No, it's not dying. The surface world is all about the utter accumulation of wealth but there is plenty of talent in the independent and underground scenes. You just have to look for it. Just like you don't like lazy artists, real artists don't want lazy fans or listeners.

haha... obviously you're new here. This has been pointed out several times already. Overall, I agree with your statement about "mainstream" up until your 4th paragraph, where you start to diss teenagers. I too have a problem with most of today's mainstream, however, I think you are being way too harsh and out of line to label people (kids at that) ignorant and "stupid." Every generation goes through this, where the prior generation thinks their music was better etc... Kids are kids and they are exposed to what media exposes them too. It's nearly impossible for them to go back 20 yrs and discover every single, oldschool HH/R&B act! They have to live for today, NOT yesterday. I hope the quality of music changes too, so that they don't have to constantly be exposed to some of the images in mainstream today. But to downgrade them (as if they somehow had a decision on when they were born) is just plain ignorant on YOUR part. Don't blame them. Blame the Record companies, the lazy music executives/producers, clearchannel, viacom, BET, MTV, for not thinking more of our youth and more of this genre, by dumbing down the music, for a quick dollar in "their own" pockets. You're taking your anger out on the wrong people.

And as others have pointed out, there are good well-deserving artists out there, but you just have research and perhaps dig a little deeper to find them!

#1 RULE FOR ANY REAL HIP HOP FAN:

TURN OFF YOUR RADIOS!

i agree i miss the 90's. I think the 90's had the best r&b songs. I dont even listen to the radio anymore because they always play the same dumb songs.

I couldn't disagree more.

We can only hope. And when it finally takes its last breath, I will be at the funeral and even pay for the banquet after!
