In death metal i like of course darkthrone's first album SJ, Arsis, Nile, Children of Bodom their old stuff, but i like thrash metal more than death metal, bands like Death, old Slayer, old Metallica and old Megadeth

I'm not a big fan of labels. I have much more diverse tastes than the bands listed here, but in order of perceived heaviness, these would be the heaviest bands I listen to.
I mean, what's up with the subcategorization? If you ignore the lyrics, can you tell me the differences between viking metal, black metal, thrash metal, and death metal? Music is music, and metal is metal. Who gives a flying f*** about whether a band sings about zombies or vikings or alien sex robots - as long as it rocks, who cares?
Oh, wait, I forgot Mastodon. Heh. They rule. And I must say that I probably won't ever listen to them for the heck of it, but I enjoy Dethklok.
