What is the advantage of piano tabs?!

Question: Recently I discovered these things called "Piano tabs". I am familiar with Guitar and bass guitar tabs, but I had never seen tabs for piano before. I read the instructions on reading these tabs, and I just don't get how it could be easier than reading regular sheet music(with staffs, notes, etc.). Could somebody explain to me why piano tabs exist?

Because notation can be very confusing.
When I first started learning piano(well, keyboard, since I can't afford a piano), I learned by using MIDI files and the MIDI roll in audio sequencing programs.
Piano Tabs are much the same kind of thing. A dumbed down version of the real thing.

If you're taught notation, then it won't make sense why anyone would learn tabs. I have been trying to learn sheet music for about a year now and I have the basics down pat. Some things irk me, like the difference between sharp and flat(which is nonexistant in my eyes), and when notes are way under or above the chart and they're hard to guess.

I prefer midi rolls so I can map out something, or play something and I'll be told what I'm playing, basically. It's a lot easier for me, but then again, if someone asks me to play something, or a specific scale or chord, I'll have no idea. I don't really view that as important, since I'm not doing live gigs, or improv songs. I'm sure, like my method of reading music, my posture sucks, but it all comes down to what's best for the specific person.

People are definitely different in their musical abilities...i know that when i play guitar i can read tabs or i can see chords and determine licks or chord changes...

it just depends on how people learn...if they are tought notes and the staff...thats great...it helps soooo much in the long run...but if someone is just doing it as an "on the side" kind of deal...piano tabs might be the right way to go...

as a musician myself playing many instruments i have exposed myself to many types of different music notation and styles...

hopefully this helps...

God Bless
