Choosing between Ready to Die and Illmatic is tough. I think that if you want fresh smooth lyrics with a beat to dance to pick Ready to Die because "Juicy" and "Big Poppa" are those kinds of feel good songs. If you want to see life in Queens told how it is with amazing lyrics and beats that won't have you dancing, but rather nodding your head in approval, Illmatic is your way to go. For me "It Ain't Hard To Tell" I just love Illmatic.

Illmatic was more ahead of its time, nas was one of the first rappers to make you really think everytime he said a line it had a serious meaning, i'm not taking anything away from big, but the hits he had were more commercial
Ooooh! I loved em both...but I'm gonna have to go with Biggie on this one.
Illmatic was better because I feel that it had more sides to it, where as Ready to Die was very one sided (talking about shooting people and maybe the occasional sex reference). It was like Biggie was trying to make a point that he was hood, but on Illmatic, Nas took it simple and had much better word play. But saying that, they are both two very influencial albums to the whole hip hop scene.

illmatic is the best hip hop album of all time. every song is a classic. you cant say that about ready to die. not every song on ready to die is as good as juicy or big poppa, but on illmatic every song can be argued as the best song on the album and theyre all absurdly good.
