When my fingers start to hurt from playing guitar should I keep playing or let t!

Question: I play from the minute I wake up (about 8 hours at least all day) and have gotten very good for a beginner. I've been practicing for a couple weeks and have developed some degree of calouses on my finger tips. But when the time comes it starts to hurt again should I keep playing through the pain or let them rest for a day or two?

My guitar teacher said kept playing, as well as a lot of other guitarists, but a lot of guitarists also said to give it a day or two for it to heal first. Yes call me crazy, I've fallen in love with my guitar since the first second I started playing it. Lol. But I'm going on all night as we speak so...

Dude, I'll tell you from the perspective ov a bass player man, Keep playing. It will heal every second you try and "rest". I can tell you that my fingers have like this 1cm ov dead skin on from playing. It no lonnger bothers me. I've only been playing for three years, but the whole dead skin thing started after a few rough weeks ov using Heavy Gauge Strings and Slideing. Believe me... SLIDEING HELPS ALOT! it also hurts alot, but after awhile it just wont hurt. Don't stop playing! Keep Going!
Be aware though that some guitars can't use heavy gauge... So perhaps just sliding on the Low E may help. it roughens it up. and It's like a little "training"

Hail, my brother, Hail!

I just wanted to say I play and always have played about 6 hours everyday, and there were times dude that my fingers Burned! it felt like fire...

Rest a bit........ they will harden up in a month or two.

you have to develop callouoses on your fingers. it will hurt a bit when you're learning but that should only last for a few weeks. once you have callouses they never go away so even if you don't play for a year, they won't hurt so much again. expect it to hurt when you practice but if it gets unbearable, just let them rest for a few hours and get back to it.

My dad was also a guitarist. I tried, but didn't really have a desire for it. He told me to keep playing. He also gave me an old-timers trick of soaking your fingers in alum (I dont even know if they make that anymore to be honest) but it did work. But it does take a while before really good callouses develop, but playing as much as you are, you'll get there.Good luck and have fun. Making music is always a good thing...because it makes people happy. Including the one doing it ;) Dont stop playing!

a little soreness is no biggie, but if you are really gritting your teeth i would say stop. If you are playing as much as you say you are your fingers are going to be more than strong enough, and will probably soon stop to hurt. I personally never felt any pain when learning, but i never played for such long sessions. Use your best judgment.

You should probably keep playing, as your teacher advised, unless the pain is truly intolerable. Once the calluses are formed, then you shouldn't have a problem with that.

If you do decide to take time off, I wouldn't take more than a day right now, until your fingers are fully used to the stress of playing.

Good luck to you, the guitar is an awesome instrument! I play it myself, both electric and acoustic.

Now I've been playing guitar for over five years and i sometimes play for 20 hours straight and it still hurts no matter how long you've been playing guitar for but u just gotta build up your practice time and have breaks in between each session. Though sometimes it helps to play through the pain to help with your endurance and eventually you will get used to the slight pain in your finger tips.

Cheers

keep playing

keep playing through it

if its your fingertips that hurt, then you should rest a little, cause you'll get callouses. but if its the joint, then you should rest for a longer time, cause that can either be really painful eventually, or do lots of damage on your fingertips. oh and i've been playing guitar for almost 4 years now and i havent developed any callouses, my skin just blisters and rips, so watch out for that.
