Who has been a greater influence on modern rock: Nirvana or The Ramones?!

Question: I'd say the Ramones, for two reasons. First, they were more original; Nirvana was more derivative of bands like the Pixies. As a seminal punk-rock band they've influenced generations of punk, whereas whoever was influenced by Nirvana was indirectly influenced by the Pixies, as I see it. Second, punk keeps coming back, while grunge hasn't. To be fair, though, the modern rock music of today isn't much influenced by either, and I miss the freshness these bands had when they surfaced in the 70s and 90s. Today's music seems more influenced by metal to me, and to lack the natural simple garage-band sounds of either Nirvana or the Ramones.

Ramones...next question.

hmmm... thats a tough one.. .they both kind of influced different things? Actually, I think ill have to say the ramones...

I think Nirvana has influenced more bands.
The Ramones have influenced a lot of bands but not as much as Nirvana.

Nirvana. All the paralyzed whininess of slackers in popular music today traces back to their musical apotheosis.

Ramones-no contest.

nirvana hands down, they are still known today as the begining of grunge/rock music. the newer generation wouldnt even be able to tell you one ramones song. i know i couldnt.

Nirvana was a great inspiration for people during a time when a lot of critics considered rock 'n' roll to be dead. They reminded us how powerful simple chords and accessible lyrics can be, but I think that they're greatness lies in what they did for rock during the 1990's (Beginning grunge, making way for alt rock, etc). If you're talking modern rock (music of the 00's) I think that The Ramones had more influence only because I don't think either band is heavily influencing music today. The Ramones influenced Green Day and Green Day influenced bands such as Fall Out Boy, etc.

Corporate hip-hop, dance pop (ala Justin Timberlake), and bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic At the Disco are popular now and none of those genres exhibit heavy influence from either Nirvana or The Ramones.

So I suppose The Ramones are more indirectly influential than Nirvana.

Both were influential, but I think The Ramones' influence was wayyy longer-lasting & far-reaching. Nirvana's influence seemed (for the most part) condensed to that general time frame.

Nirvana because they winged grunge. The Ramones have their own style.

NIRVANA !!!!!!!!!!

Ramones

Nirvana..........all the time

I'm going to say Nirvana. They were basically the grunge era, and when Cobain died there was a huge reaction to it that just gave their music more publicity.

No question - The Ramones.

What a horribly stupid question obviously Nirvana The Ramones suck *** and didn't do jack s h it to influence anything never mind modern rock.
