Why has Led Zeppelin gone through a resurgence in the last few years or so?!

Question: It seems like recently alot of people are claiming led zeppelin to be the best band that ever existed. And there was a long period where led zeppelin was respected and liked but no more than other popular bands from the same era. I notice alot of younger people wearing the led zeppelin shirts and they are the ones usually going on and on about them.
But is this not a relatively recent revival of their music?
Is it just because of the absolutely horrible modern rock that is out on the radio now?

I know what you're saying. I grew up in the 80's (which was shortly after Led Zeppelin broke up), so you'd think that people would've been talking about them more back then than now. But yeah, it seems the last few years people have been talking about the band more. I think some of it has to do with the latest generation discovering the band and seeing how awesome they were. Not to mention, it's incredibly easy to hear Led Zeppelin's influence in modern rock. Bands like Fuel (for example) have a lot of Zeppelin-esque guitar riffs, especially if played acoustically.

Led Zeppelin never dwindled in popularity, the resurgence has probably caused YOU to notice it more.

Zep has always been popular. I think they've gotten a boost recently because they finally allowed their music to be put out on Napster, iTunes, Rhapsody, etc. And yes, modern rock sucks b@lls...

Well I'm young and Led Zeppelin is high up there on my lists.

I grew up with listening to that sort of music since I was a little girl. It was all I knew...it's what my parents raised me with and I'm proud.

I agree though, I hate when fans come out of nowhere.

EDIT: I didn't intend to offend anyone, sorry if that's what it seemed like. It's just that a lot of people from my school come out one day and act like they're the biggest fans. Cool..they're a fan, but they don't need to pretend like they're some huge long-time fanatic.

High school kids have loved led zeppelin since led zeppelin was around. No kidding. I graduated from highschool in 2003 and there were PLENTY of led zeppelin freaks! Plenty of them. Lol, it's kind of interesting actually... Yes I do believe you may be onto something there with the horrible pap that passes as rock these days.

I've noticed this too. Although terrible modern rock has been a problem for more than just a few years, I think that's close to it. I think rock music has become more retro in the past decade. To name a couple, you've got like White Stripes recalling the Kinks, The Strokes and Velvet Underground. I guess a lot of people got sick of all the post-grunge garbage that's been flooding the waves, and the old stuff sounded fresher than the new stuff. I guess since Led Zeppelin were THE rock band, the whole revival is going to pull them back in as well. Seems more normal than a kid sporting a "Transformer" t-shirt. That's the best I can think of. Who knows, but maybe it's a good sign regardless?

hmmn srry bt they er the greatest anyway... i think its b/c they reunited... but 4 me my parents introed me a long time ago... i was a fan b4 the fan influx me and my brother!

Agent S, you have something there.

in my opinion theres never been anyone better.i started listening to them in the mid eighties and never enjoyed any other band more.maybe metallica, tool, pantera or megadeth.but zepplin stayed relivent for years.most eighties bands borrowed from them in one way or another.it might sound corny but you can get lost in a zepplin song like no other.they say the sign of a good band is their staying power.they have always had that.
