Any other tool fans disappointed by 10,000 days?!

Question: I love all tool albums, but most specifically Aenima and Lateralus.
It could have been that I expected too much from tool after a 5 year break from lateralus but I was quite disapointed by 10,000 days. There doesn't seem to be as many intricacies, hidden meanings and patterns in the songs as in Aenima.
The vocal style of maynard seems like he was influenced by much more mainstream sounds.
I'm not saying its a bad album on its own but I don't see how its much like tool's last few albums before it.
Anyone else have any criticisms of the last album?

yeah, it feels like a recycled version of the group's earlier efforts. derivative of and consequently substantially worse than their previous outings.

Yea, Lateralus was their best. The last album was just watered down.

I've yet to listen to it but their worst is still better than mosts best

Lateralus was by far their best album, 10,000 Days sounds pretty good to me, but it does lack that deep and poetic meaning I loved to look for in all of their songs.

I find it quite boring.. so yes

but i dont care i still like them

I think the best is still to come from them, if you have noticed every album is in either this direction or that direction with a different sound. They seem to hit on it in a song or two but them slide away from what they really seem to be intending on. 10,000 was yet another direction. I think one problem is the different projects everyone has going on. If you noticed the first few that it had all of this weridness to it that made it feel right, then when each member got into their own thing the main band seemed to of lose a bit of steam. Once they realize this pattern will a shift, hopefully back to more angst alt rock times will be shown on any future release.

yes very dissapointed, i read some reviews that you said it required repeated listenings before you like it but that still didnt work for me...plus there is way too much "filler music", out of the whole cd there is only about 4 listenable songs and none of them are that special considering what Tool is capable of (re: the pot, jambi,,etc)..definitely does not compare too aenima,or undertow

I was not at all disappointed. You can not expect them to make another Aenima. It won't happen. I thought 10,000 days was a Tool worthy album. I have it playing right now. I am eagerly awaiting their next album. Tool is in the studio now!!!

They seemed to be trying to hard to write things that sounded like tool and ended up sounding like some other band playting ripping off tool.
