"You'll always be my baby..."?!

Question: In the song by Sara Evans... don't you find that the father is a bit of a pushover? I mean, I understand that you should tell your child that you love them, no matter what... but wouldn't a real father (who actually cared about how his daughter might turn out) say something like, "You'll always be my baby... BUT... You're still in trouble. No dessert for you... or no TV," or something along those lines?

I mean, if my father had said something like that and didn't follow through with some sort of punishment, I would have pretty much taken advantage of his lax parenting.
