Deal? or No Deal?!

Question: Is it really worth it to sign with a Major label? become somebodys property, only get a small percentage of sales, get dropped if you don't sale enough, have your release date pushed back due to whatever, creative differiences..ect. and if you're smart enough to do it indie. will your sales be enough to live off of? or do you love it enough to Tour 200+ days a year ect. Im not considering becoming a Rapper or nothing like that. I just wanted some perspective from you all.

It depends on what you want to get out of your career and what you're bringing to the table as an artist. If what you have is that top 40 style of rap that closely matches whats mainstream, there are record execs looking to profit off of current wave. Theres no longetivity for these types of Pop acts, their best bet for success is to get rich quick and get out before anybody realizes how whack you are. For those cats, go to a big record label. Real artists looking longetivty and a solid fanbase would most likely benefit more from going independent.

Is it worth the chance of getting rich? Yes it is.

Hell yeah its worth it. Most artists eventually venture off and create their own labels. Become their own boss. I would.

i love how this has become the topic of the day.

and yes, the potential gain is worth the risk.

There are plenty of artists, who have maintained their artistic outlook, creative control, and content quality once signed to mainstream. nt evryone goes commercial just because they have a major deal. YES it does happen. but that doesnt mean it's part of the deal.

no it is not worth signing to a major label. you lose your soul, your original fanbase and your right to express yourself without censorship.

edit- go ahead and give me the thumbs down.

of course man.. yea yea ppl say "DONT SELL OUT" but i would rather become sitnking rich and dispoint those ppl then never become big.

lets face it. noone listens to undeground these day (unforutnatly) so youll never be famous
