Do you pay more attention to a singers personal life or the music ?!

My focus is their music...the quality, the sound, how it affects me as a person, how it sounds, ....their life is their own business. However, I would have to agree what you are experiencing in your life does have an affect on what you write, compose, produce, etc.
As we know there are those out thier that the music is a representation of their life and the changes and evolving that goes on within them as they grow and mature. Such as Mary J. Blige and her development process.
I just started listening to Amy Winehouse..her songs seems to reflect the turmoil that is going on with her life. I hope that she can find her equilibrium and move out of the turmoil.
Or we can go back to Minnie Ripperton or Donny Hathaway.. I believe that the music will tell you they are going through some thing in their life ( a real tough or low point in their life).
I guess you won't have to explore or be preoccupied with their lives. It will come through in thier music in what they write and how they sing it.
I pay attention to both. Most of their music comes from personal experiences anyway
