Does vibrato define one's talent?!

Question: Is vibrato so important that it defines one's talent?
Are they not talented as they are without using vibrato, sounding good, and harmonize well?

Yes, Falsetto & Vibrato are important if you want a long singing career.

If you're not singing in your Vibrato then your chances are that you're going to slowly destroy your vocal chords.
You don't just sing with your vibrato to get to higher notes with little effort but also to save your vocal chords.

Vibrato= Safe Singing & Higher notes with less effort(Breathe)

well, yes and no.

It by no means defines talent, but in order to be really talented especially for modern styles of music you need to have GOOD CONTROLLED VIBRATO. if you over do vibrato it sound like you hav eno control over what you do and you are just shaky. I prefer some vibrato in a voice, light to medium, the whole note should not be delivered vibrato either, just for most of the note some of the note should be the straight pitch.

no it dosent define any thing.
vibrato is like iceing on a cake. if the cake is BAD all the iceing in the world wont fix it !

Well it depends how well you can get the technique right. You have to have the right pitch and note, to be able to make it sound great. Some notes and pitchs shound completly wrong with the Vibarto. It sounds good just depending on when sung on the note. They are talented because they have the ears to tell when to sing with the vibrato timing some are not so as good. You need the talent to sing the note, or it just sounds wierd

I was always told vibrato is a natural thing. I can't STAND it when people fake/over-do vibrato. I have a little vibrato, but only on the end of phrases. I agree with the others, though, it can and needs to be controlled. However, sometimes when people get nervous, vibrato increases (I have had that happen), then you have to try EXTRA HARD to control it. I have heard flat singers without it (not flat in key, flat with no vibrato), and it is pretty. Personally, I prefer a little. Don't know if that helped you at all, sorry. :)

yes but it can also sound dumb if you use it too much
