For me in particular its Children of Bodom.
Their music is just amazing and it hits you full in the face.
Plus their lyrics mean a lot to me like the song "Hate me!".

What I like about it is looking at some of those good looking guys who sing it with passion. I'm not a big fan or rock, heavy metal, but that's what attracts me.
The heaviness, aggression, and overall anger that it makes you feel. Also it owns noobs. :-)

Like right now in class I've got Facedown by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. And five minutes ago taking my history test it was Let it Die from Three Days Grace. A good rock song, is like a good book you forget who you are and what your doing your entire being is the song.

It is amazing how good these musicians are. just one time listen to Slayers Raining Blood. A complete piece of art! I love it. It is exciting and invigorating and aggressive. makes you want to move and scream...YEAH! Funny I never listen until I met my husband. He forced me and i'm glad he did.
You are starting with the assumption that whoever reads your question loves rock and heavy metal. This is totally inappropriate.
Nonetheless, I think there's something important in the way the beat is developed and the instruments work together that makes it popular.
The musical talent in a good metal band is incomparable. There's a certain freedom in metal and rock you can't get from any other music. I play drums and I've been in bands. It's a great experience. Listen to metal. Love it. Live it!
I personally find that it speaks to most young people in their own language, with real issues that bring real emotions. I'm NOT a big fan of country music, mainly bc I don't care to hear "sappy" stories that threaten to make me cry, or unbelievable acts of GOD. Classical is very nice, and classic, but canNOT speak to those with aggression. Really we need that edge, to relate (in my opinion).
It comes down to one thing. Passion. Raw animal passion. Some people have it in them to get worked up in a frenzy about something obviously powerful. Some people listen to country (cuz it's nice). Rock is bred of passion. That's what makes it so bloody nasty!
It's the music, not really the words. It raises the adrenaline and fills you with energy. That's why it's good loud.

Because it actually takes skill to learn an instrument and play in a band like Angus Young and Jimi hendrix, and not just be a poser who just takes credit for all the music like the idiots of pop music.
Also the aggression, the amzing rhythm and melody of rock song and just overall amazingness.
I'm not really sure why i like it so much. i just do. most bands have so much talent and they can make you think when they want you to and just love it when they want you to.

I love how people underestimate it. They don't really expect rock to have that much of an impact on people, and when they finally hear it, they're forced to eat their words. It's so awesome to hear someone say 'I just don't get it.' I love hearing that because I DO get it. I get what it's saying, I get what it represents, and I love how it makes people double take. It makes you feel like you're in this little secret society, where we all understand each other, and what each has to say. It's a big thing in my life, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
It is something I can't explain. To this day When I hear "Walk" by Pantera I just really want to stomp an mud hole in someones ***.
