a breakdown in music is usually after the 2nd chorus in acomanyment with a bridge. a breakdown is basicly the hardcore part of a song. a musician might cut time to make it a slower feel(typical in metal music) or might keep tempo but just use maybe screaming or just more flashy instrumentation to make it faster. its the crescendo my friend.
