Did a bad music video almost ruin a good song for you?!

Question: Has one of your favorite bands ever put out a music video, and it was just totally not what you were expecting? Name some examples...

I know I felt disappointed when A Perfect Circle put out their video for "The Outsider." It bugs me that Tool and APC have such deeply personal and moving lyrics, and yet Maynard always tries to throw something funny in there. Save the comedy for Weird Al and Bloodhound Gang! This song is about someone watching someone they know self-destruct, and we get a cheesy B-movie video for it. I also hate when dialogue is played over the music. Actually, the video was kinda cool, just not for APC and not for that song.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of videos. I feel as though they take away from the actual song and rarely do they ever affect my opinion. It's fun to watch them, but in the end I don't let a director's horrible idea for a video change what I think of a certain song.

Yeah...Same Mistake by James Blunt. Loved the song until I saw the video...lol

not really, i dont really watch videos so i dont really care if it is a bad video or not

No if I like a song I could care less about the video. MTV has killed music. I say that because MTV wants music videos. Just make music and who cares about the video. When I want to see a video I put in a movie or turn on the T.V. When I want to hear music I put on my headphones and listen not watch. How ironic that the first music video on MTV was video killed the raido star.

RASPUTIN by Turisas, the video suprised me in a bad way. The band is viking/folk metal and so when watching their video for "Rasputin" I expected a vikingish type theme, but that was not the case. They were in a club and the singer was at a table with women around him like he was a pimp. When the band played on the stage slutty girls were hip hop dancing in the front. Actually after seeing that video I dont think I like the band in general anymore.

I agree. I love APC and TOOL. The Outsider is the only song I can't listen to solely because of the music video. APC's first video was classic Maynard and was great but doing such a horrid one with The Outsider made me want to cringe.

Actually Maynard must REALLY like the Bikini Bandits... he has done a lot of videos with them. Those videos are uncomfortable to watch. Just say no Maynard!!!!

EDIT: Thank you Tesla, for reminding us of that little nugget of joy. EWWWW.........

"Let's see if we can get all the beautiful boys to take their shirts off. Yeah!"

I can't think straight right now, that quote continues to haunt me...thanks a lot!! LOL

As for your question, so far I haven't witnessed a video so bad that it ruined the song for me but then again, I pretty much focus my attention towards the 80's videos and you can't really go wrong with those. Cheesy? Yes, but terrible? No way!!

EDIT: GK - At least I only had to hear you tell me about it rather then actually live it. Ugghhh I've got the chills just thinking about that! Hey, that goth girl didn't think he/she/it was good looking did she??

I would say not so much anymore since MTV no longer devotes a majority of their time to videos. If a song is really awesome, a bad video won't ruin the experience. One notable exception for me was this 80's flashback. This video is quite simply uber-gay and I can't cleanse my mind of dancing peasants.
