How do i know if i can sing?!
Question: Well, i'm WAY too scared to sing in front of a person.. I've recorded myself on my phone, but it sounded...not like me. I can't really hear my voice in it.. so how else can i tell?

sing in front of a friend, or a stranger and they wont lie.....ooo wait! i got a great idea... Pretend ur a hobo, put some change in a bucket er sumtin, go in a subway (place the change jar inf ront of u and start to sing, if u get a load of money then ur good, and plus, nobody can blame u cus they think ur a hobo!
Get somone to hear you sing.
Go on American Idol, at then we all can see how much you can/can't sing.
Sing in the library and if someone tells you to shut up you can't sing.
If you can hit various notes and recognize them :-)
You can't tell by just listening to yourself. Even if you manage to get a semi-decent recording, you can still think you sound awful, when you might actually sound good (or vice versa). Singing in front of another person, specifically a choir instructor or voice instructor, is the best way to find out if you can sing.
Get a real recorder and record yourself.
Nobody believes that it's them they hear when they playback the recording.

I say see if your pitch is okay. record urself then listen to it.

Online karaoke, you can get rated, and listen to others..lots of songs to pick from, too.
Well you either get over your stage fright or try and actually listen to yourself when you sing
idk. sing for your dog/cat. if it howls u must suck.
I had a teacher once in, like, elementary school tell me that if I cupped my hand around one ear in a silent room and pushed the ear towards where my mouth is and sung that you can hear yourself better. If you are looking to match a pitch, I guess you could get a tuning fork though and see if you are on tune when you sing. I don't know if this helps, but good luck.

Seriously if you're 16 and over go for it. They'll tell you the truth!
Start of small with1 person then work yourself up.
You will never know how to sing in key if you don't work with a coach. If you never let anyone hear you what's the point
make a video of you singing a popular song you like and load it in youtube, comments will definetely tell you how well or bad you sing
OMG! I'm having the same problem! Well, I'm not really sure if theres any other way because I've tried recording with a microphone, videocamera .etc. and I sound weird. So I sung in front of my friend (after lots of persuading from her). XD Bring up the courage! That's the only way! Then when you finally can sing in front of someone, try singing loud (because a singer needs to know how to sing loud) and join choir to bring your courage up. I didn't join my choir cause they sound like people singing for a funeral XXXDDDD
So overall the answer is, YOU MUST BE STRONG AND FIND A TRUSTWORTHY FRIEND to sing in front.

my advise is not to ask opinions from your family or friends, because they not gonna tell you the truth.
what u can do is, make a video of your self singing and put it on youtube, those people on youtube will tell u the truth, sometime harsh. but u never know, u mite be famous one day
get over your fright of singing in fornt of someone. they will tell you if you sound good and if you do, you should be more confident! i thought i couldn't sing but i tried in front of my best bud and she said i couldn't but i liked singing so much that i kept singing in front of people. you shouldn't care if you sing well or not cause if you like to sing than do it!

Well you could record it and send it via e-mail to someone, then it technically wouldnt be singing in front of a person =D
If you don't understand your voice and if your asking people if you can sing or not, you obviously can't sing. How you hear yourself over the phone is the way you sound (even if its a bad quality phone). Get some singing lessons.
aks somone you really really really trust. that might work. and that person can tell people how good you are. if you are!
everybody sounds higher to other ppl than they do to thereselves.. get sumone to hear u or get a better recording device (getting a person to hear u is better cuz then u can get their feedback and advice)
