The term "Emo"?!
Question: The term "emo" is a bit played out! Especially in the Rock Band world where most bands coming out are either considered emo or they themselves consider themselves as "emo". I, a fan of Bullet for My Valentine, Trivium, Atreyu and many other bands fine the term very funny because ignorant people love to call listeners of these bands... well emo! But I'm far from it! FAR from it. I mean I may be a bit stereotypical when I say this but I don't cry for every little reason and what not. Nor do I cry for any reason. Also... I see the word emo as the dumbest thing in the world to label someone just like the word goth! I listen to this music because I vibe with it and listen to the words and just sit back and relax. Do I have to be emo to listen to this because if you say yes then that is completely ignorant!

Honestly, I think people are just trying to find new words to stereotype themselves/other people. Its really annoying actually. "Gangster/ghetto/prep/jock/emo/punk" its all so cliche.
Goth used to be a religion and way of life and now its someone who wears black and listens to "gothic" or emo/metal music.
Just ignore it. Thats what I did all through high school. People will realize when they're more mature and older that none of that stuff mattered and/or matters later on in life.
And the bands your referring to would be considered "screamo" bands not just emo because they scream sing too.
Also, just because you listen to that music doesn't mean thats how you act or are. Its not ignorance when people label you like that, its immaturity.

I think we need to eliminate all the genres and just call it "music". There were no genres in classical times, they were all just symphonies.

Listen to whatever you want, you shouldn't have to dress, act, or think a certain way to listen to certain music, no matter what genre or style it's considered. Be eclectic in your musical standards, it broadens your ideas and concepts of the world (lyrically of course).

Emo just means emotional people , which everyone is and if a particular breed of people are very emotional hey let em call themselves whatever they want... But it is kinda stupid though..
I agree, "emo" is a stupid term, i personally think people call themself emo because they want attention. ahha a few girls at my school "cut themselfes" because they want people to nodice them, but there is nothing good about being emo. it's a gross thing to be called.

Its true, it is a completely ignorant term to use. The word "emo" refers to someone who is overly emotional just to grab attention or pity from other. And for some reason people have asscoiated that with the type of music they listen to like rock and punk etc.
People are just abusing that word and saying that everything is "emo" now a days.
No you are not emo. These people that call it Emo are just lookin for a fight. If you find the song catchy, or you like the song, who really cares. It's what you think it is, not what others think. Unless the song they sing comes up in "Emo Rock" or the band specifically says they are emo, then whatever you think the band is, is what you think. It doesnt matter what others think =D

Yes i agree, it is a very big stereotype that is put on very many people and music groups. I agree 100%. People are all entitled to their own opinion, and their own music.
NO you do not have to be "emo" to listen to that type of music. Music is like an opinion, anyone can listen to whatever taste they have. Just because someone labels the music one type, doesn't mean you have to stick with it. I like certain types of music like that, and i don't listen to a word "they" say.

The word "emo" is short for "emotional" and I think the word is more used for categorizing a group of people.
I am quick to say that I hate everyone who is "EMO" or "SCENE" for the simple fact that there is no reason to look so silly. Yes, it may be "self expression," but can't you express yourself in a way that doesn't look so silly? What's the point of having 20 facial piercings, cutting your wrists, getting really ugly hair cuts, and being just down right stupid?
A lot of people wonder why kids are tormented in school, and the main reason is because they dress like lunatics. I am not saying everyone should dress in HOLLISTER or any other dumb clothing line, I am just saying everyone should tone it down with their dressage.
I've never heard of these bands but i listen to like MCR and Fall out boy and things like that and wear my own style because fashion is so boring and expensive to go along with also i wear black eyeliner but not heavy and people call me EMO. I am me, i hate people who follow crowds and it really p****** me off when people say it to me but I've learnt to just ignore them.

emo is short for emotional. i used to be that emos sat in thier rooms crying and slitting thier wrists. but now its just another 'group' of people who generally wear skinny jeans, converse etc and listen to 'emo' music. for people who wear/listen to any of those thing, it doesnt nesseceraly make them emo. like i listen to some 'emo' music and suddenly everyone thinks im emo. which im not. so theyre idiots. but basicaly you should just do what you want, and listen to whatever music you want, no matter what they say.

i completely agree sometimes i look " emo" sometimes i look other stuff so people go weird on me a few years ago if i moaned about my life id get a decent response all i get now is stop being emo ?!?! anyway any music coming out within in the past 3 years to now and beyond is being called pop-punk or emo so lets just imagine all the good connotations and take it as a compliment because we like it its good thats it!

I am absolutely the boring middle aged woman who grew up with bands that actually wrote their own music and sang it.
I appreciate these bands because they have passion for what they do. Saturday night we paid $10.00 and saw 6 bands perform- they did not make a dime off of the concert except the merch they sold, in Atlanta we saw 17 bands for $8.00. They did it for the music.
People that judge just don't understand.
I am going to go crazy when my daughter leaves for college this fall because I won't be able to go to the concerts anymore.
