Have I been missing anything since I last turned on a radio in 2002?!

Question: I consider myself somewhat of a hip hop historian. I listen to at least 6 hours of music every day, but I haven't turned on a radio since Dead Prez told me to "turn of the radio" in 2002. When people talk about all of these rapper with Lil in front of their name, I don't have a clue who they're talking about 75% of the time. Am I depriving myself of hip hop history (whether it be good or bad)?

lol

Yes you are...as bad as you believe it to be, there is good Hip Hop played on the daily.

I may have done the same thing as you did, had Dead Prez's sophomore album not sounded so much like their debut

And again, don't generalize. You consider yourself a 'historian' who listens to at least 6 hours of music every day, yet you completely forget/ignore Little Brother? I'm guesing you don't know who they are, so you really don't know as much as you think you do if you do in fact live with the underground now do you?

It's not about underground versus mainstream...it's about good music versus bad music.

No and I've been silly enough to watch these (insert descriptive term here) (followed by their actual name)
fools on youtube etc and I say don't bother you won't be impressed in the slightest by anything they have to say that is if you can even understand them. I think the reason they rap like that is deep down even they don't believe what they are saying.

Since 2002? Nah. All they got now is Plies, DJ Khaled, T Pain, Rick Ross, Franchise Boyz, D4L, Lupe Fiasco,. If it ain't from Louisiana, Texas, or Tennessee, it ain't worth listening to.

No its all crap anyway.

everything is all gay now. a song is on the radio for like 2 weeks and everybody likes it, then when its all used up ppl go to another crappy song, like a Ja Rule song, and then it goes on and on and on. its pretty much a never ending 5hit cycle.

I stopped listening to radio a long time ago aswell. I still stay up on all the new mixtapes, and skim through it all, to find what i like. so in that way yes your malnurished. theirs artists mixed within the HH community youd enjoy if you took the time to seek them out.
