Is This A Good Violin?!

Question: I am looking for a violin. I love the look and design of this one. Can anyone tell me if August F. Kohr's are great violins? This is the 525 model.

Thanks SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!

Well, it looks verty nice but when buying a violin you should play it first ; the sound it makes is the only criteria by which to judge a violin.
You should go to your nearest violin shop and see what they have in stock and play a few.

Appearances can be deceptive. I have seen beautiful violins that sounded quite ordinary and I have seen very plain violins that sounded magnificent.

You cannot go on price either. I have heard $200 violins that sounded better than some $1,000 violins.

You have to play it and judge by the sound. Visit your nearest violin shop.

Yeah it looks llike a nice instrument.

1 thumbs up
:) its good enough

\i need a pic of it cuz i dont hav time to look it up........

Ok sorry...didnt see the website......
yeah its very nice

yeah its a good one

yup.
amazing.
get it.
worth it.

yup

Very beautiful. Love the carving in the wood's flute instructional bind. Low leaf needs a bit of polish. Maybe some dashmitten in the right carnia, but over all it looks well done. I'd give it a shot, but see your local repair shop to fix that nasty right carnia!

i havent played in such a long time haha. it looks pretty alright, have you been playing long? If your thinking of becoming some intense "make violin my life" kinda person, then its the not the best, but if its for leisure then sure why not.

Yeah, supposedly all violins that have a full back (http://img.thefind.com/images/XgArmuIXMo... are better than double backs (http://www.gruhn.com/features/sderci/VF2...

*The second one has a line in the middle

looks nice.

Get a Stradivarius if you can...LOL...just kidding.

I used to play...it is beautiful...enjoy!!

yes, definatly go for it. it has a great sound to it and it feals so natural when playing.

A 2 year old K500 played for one year by a student went for $210 on eBay, including the hardshell case and bow. The 525 is supposed to be a slight step up, but not $350 more at reatail worth. If you can afford to be patient, a 525 might turn up at a significant savings. It's used, of course, but so is every Stradivarius. If you have to have it now, it seems to be a good student instrument.

Unless they can ship it to you for a test play, don't buy it. Beauty doesn't mean anything when it comes to sound. It's all in the sound. The most reputable shops will let ship you several violins to test if there are no shops near you. Also, you can't really see how its set up in a picture online. YOu want to make sure all the parts are up to par, is the bridge well made and the right height? Do the fit sit well? Are the pegs good quality? The tail piece. Everything.

Good luck.

Kohr violins are really basic violins mainly for beginners. They are nice violins but their tone falters from time to time and the strings and bridge post need to be changed and realigned more often than most higher quality violins. The price is reasonable for the quality though. Good luck.

This violin is quite beautiful for its price, but make sure you play it before you buy it! If you are a beginner, this is the perfect violin for you, and you will enjoy learning on a violin like this one. However, as you get more advanced you will begin to notice the differences in tone and quality of different violins, and at that time you may want to consider upgrading.
