Question: My friend told me once that he saw them live, and they were terrible. He said they played their songs so much slower.

Yeah, it is true. They don't play their songs as fast as they should live. They enhance their music in the studios just to make them sound like they are playing very fast.
Yeah, no one can play that fast except John Petrucci and Paul Waggoner
DragonForce is bad in the likes of Soulja Boy and Britney Spears

I have never seen them live but think about how hard it is to play those Solos? Through the Fire and the Flames live without mistakes would be like impossible!

when they record, they just speed up the song there is no way anybody could play that fast in through fire and flames

They're not just terrible live. I made the mistake of buying "Inhuman Rampage" a while back , and i can vouche for THAT sucking as well....
i'm not a big fan of the genre but have watched a lot of live video and a lot of smooth players (just playing without all the flashy stage movements) doing really good covers on You Tube. gotta give Li and Totman an a+ for technical ability and makin what they do look a lot more complicated lol.
just one of those bands (if you love em, you love em and if you hate em you will pick em apart every chance you get).
live will never compare with recordings because someone will always find something to bash, especially if they don't like the band or(fan wise)if it isn't the same as the studio sound . some bands are just better in the studio while others are better entertainers in a live setting.
i think dragonforce music itself has been typcast as a video game sound track and the band is not taken seriously because of the fantasy themes in their songs. they are a metal band cought in the wrong time,trying to tell stories to a generation of metal fans with the combined imagination and collective attention span of a gold fish( and that's insulting the intelligence of a gold fish lol ).
