I'm trying to strengthen my fingers but...?!

Question: I don't want to hurt myself or damage my hand.

I was considering buying a hand grip like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/2-HAND-GRIP-EXERCISE...

But am thinking this one might be a little better since it works each individual finger: http://cgi.ebay.com/GRIPMASTER-HAND-FING...

I really don't want to damage my hand. Being a pianist, which one do you think would be better to use. Has anyone used the grips or any other device to safely strengthen the muscles in the forearm? Thanks so much for your help!

its very unlikely you would damage your hand using either of those. you can feel when your muscles are tiring out and stop exercising them. you are more likely to hurt yourself getting your hand trapped in a door or tripping up and landing your hand on something. the top one looks a bit better for exercising the forearm, because the exercise is larger and uses your whole hand, putting more strain on your forearm. the second one will be better for strengthening your fingers. so if you want to strengthen the forearm rather than the fingers, go for the first one. and i really wouldnt worry about damaging your hand. just stop exercising it when it starts aching too much.

happy playing :)

if you are using hand grips at home then you could put on a thin pair of gloves. you can get sport ones if you think normal ones look to silly. This would protect your fingers more when you use the hand grip.also protects your hand too as you will find the hand grip may rub on other parts of your hand depending on how you hold it.
