Anyone really know?

In a 1992 interview, Geezer Butler states that the title simply refers to Bill Ward's goatee at the time, which the rest of the band thought was shaped like a pen nib.

i dont know.. i'll be watching this question though. i'm curious myself!

nativity in black

Yeah, it is a reference to Bill ward's beard at the time which resembled a pen nib... commonly people refer to it as Nativity In Black ~ that's a fan fabrication (better spin) ha ha ha

It was a nick name giving to the drummer Bill Ward from the band because of his beard. Just a little trivia I kept filled in the back of my head. Who knew I would ever have to retrieve it. Filing cabinet a little messy back there after all these years! SHOCKER

Nativity In Black. i have every album Black Sabbath ever made
