Out of tune guitar?!

Question: I just bought an acoustic guitar and I'm not really sure if it is in tune. I have a tuner but I think it is broken or something because I will strum a string and it tells me to tighten it. I move about 1/8 in. and it tell me to loosen it. I pretty much know how to tune it by ear but I still need my E string in tune. This is probably confusing but how do i do this?

best bet would get a pitch pip or even a piano to help you out

find an on line tuner.....

Go get some Hot Cocoa sit down by a fireplace and read a book tommorow when you get up go to your nearest music store and most likely they will tune right there on the spot

You are probably just not used to the sensitivity of the tuner. Make sure you dont pluck the string to hard when sounding the note. And if you need to tune by ear just fret the E string at the 5th fret and make the A (5th) string sound the same and so on. Except the G string is at the 4th fret.

it doesnt sound like your tuner is broken, you may have to make really tiny adjustments to get your guitar in tune.Another thing you could maybe do is if you have a keyboard or piano, match the e with that. Or even find a song on the internet that starts with an e note and tune it by ear.
